Teoría de la historia e inteligencia artificial. El caso del ChatGPT historiador

Abstract

El artículo investiga los impactos de la inteligencia artificial generativa, en especial de ChatGPT-4o, sobre la teoría, la metodología y la práctica historiográfica contemporánea. El autor parte de la historiografía de la historia digital y destaca los desafíos derivados de la digitalización masiva de documentos, de las lógicas algorítmicas de indexación y de la opacidad de los criterios técnicos de las nuevas herramientas. La sección central explora a ChatGPT como un actor epistemológico emergente y discute sus límites —como las alucinaciones y los sesgos— y su potencial para modular la escritura histórica mediante la ingeniería de prompts y los agentes personalizados. El artículo propone una reconfiguración del oficio historiográfico, reivindicando una práctica crítica y pública como condición de posibilidad para la historia por venir.

This article investigates the impact of generative artificial intelligence, especially ChatGPT, on contemporary historical theory, methodology, and historiographical practice. The author begins with the historiography of digital history, highlighting challenges brought about by massive digitization, algorithmic indexing, and the opacity of technical criteria in emerging tools. The central section frames ChatGPT as an emergent epistemological actor, addressing its limitations (such as hallucinations and bias) and its potential to shape historical writing through prompt engineering and personalized agents. The article calls for a reconfiguration of the historical profession based on technically mediated regimes of truth, authorship, and citation, defending a public and critical historiographical practice as the condition of possibility for the history to come.
