Racionalidad, autonomía y valor: tres problemas en la filosofía de la crítica de arte

Abstract

Este trabajo de tesis explora la filosofía de la crítica de arte, analizando tres problemas relevantes: la naturaleza de las razones estéticas en el contexto de la crítica de arte, la necesidad de distinguir entre la crítica de arte y la historia del arte, y el rol de la crítica en la configuración del valor estético y la legitimación artística. Sobre el primer aspecto, se argumenta que las razones estéticas son fundamentalmente razones para la apreciación y que la apreciación provee un marco teórico valioso para comprender el carácter racional de la crítica de arte. Sobre el segundo aspecto, se defiende que la distinción entre crítica e historia del arte no tiene un sustento filosófico, pero que revela tensiones productivas que una filosofía de la crítica de arte debería preservar (evitando trazar una línea divisoria entre las disciplinas, comprendiendo las motivaciones y propósitos de hacerlo). Sobre el último aspecto, se argumenta que la crítica de arte participa activamente en la configuración del valor estético. El trabajo, en general, aboga por una comprensión de la crítica de arte sensible a su carácter intersticial, racional, y a su función social en relación con la configuración del valor estético.

This dissertation explores the philosophy of art criticism, analyzing three key aspects: the nature of aesthetic reasons within the context of art criticism, the need to distinguish between art criticism and art history, and the role of criticism in shaping aesthetic value and artistic legitimation. On the first aspect, it is argued that aesthetic reasons are fundamentally reasons for appreciation and that appreciation provides a valuable theoretical framework for understanding the rational character of art criticism. On the second aspect, it is argued that the distinction between criticism and art history has no philosophical underpinning, but that it reveals productive tensions that a philosophy of art criticism should preserve (while avoiding drawing a dividing line between the disciplines, understanding the motivations and purposes of doing so). On the last aspect, it is argued that art criticism actively participates in the configuration of aesthetic value. The dissertation, in general, argues for an understanding of art criticism that is sensitive to its interstitial, rational character and its social function in relation to the configuration of aesthetic value.
