Investigación en educación y docencia en Uruguay (1942-1967): Una aproximación a partir de la trayectoria de María A. Carbonell de Grompone.

Abstract

La presente investigación se centra en la trayectoria de María A. Carbonell de Grompone, con relación a la producción de conocimiento sobre educación. Para ello se toma el período comprendido entre 1942 y 1967, cuando Carbonell estuvo vinculada al Laboratorio de Psicopedagogía “Sebastián Morey Otero” de los Institutos Normales y al Instituto de Profesores “Artigas”. Dentro de estas instituciones, Carbonell y un grupo de maestras desarrollaron investigaciones sobre educación desde el campo de la psicopedagogía, con un fuerte peso de la estadística y que con el correr del tiempo iría tomando algunos componentes sociales. Las preguntas que se busca responder son: ¿qué investigaban las y los docentes en la primera mitad del siglo XX? ¿En qué consistía la labor de investigación de María Carbonell? ¿Qué similitudes y diferencias tenía su tarea de investigación en los Institutos Normales y en el Instituto de profesores? Para ello nos centramos, en una primera parte, en las distintas instituciones en las que se desarrollaban tareas de investigación en Uruguay en el período considerado, haciendo énfasis en aquellas compuestas por docentes de Primaria y Secundaria, mientras que los últimos capítulos se enfocan en la trayectoria de Carbonell en los Institutos Normales y el Instituto de Profesores. La investigación, inscrita dentro de la historia intelectual y con los aportes teóricos de Jean François Sirinelli, se basa en distintas fuentes escritas como ser publicaciones oficiales de los institutos mencionados, revistas pedagógicas, así como en el archivo personal de María Angélica Carbonell.

This research focuses on the career of María A. Carbonell de Grompone, in relation to the production of knowledge about education. For this, the period between 1942 and 1967 is considered, when Carbonell was linked to the “Sebastián Morey Otero” Psychopedagogy Laboratory of the Normal Institutes and the “Artigas” Institute of Teachers. Within these institutions, Carbonell and a group of teachers developed research on education from the field of psychopedagogy, with a strong statistical component that over time would take on some social features. The questions we seek to answer are: what did teachers research in the first half of the 20th century? What did María Carbonell's research work consist of? What similarities and differences did her research task have in the Normal Institutes and in the Teachers' Institute? To do this, we focus in the first part of the thesis on the different institutions in which research tasks were carried out in Uruguay in the period considered, emphasizing those composed of Primary and Secondary teachers, while the last chapters focus on Carbonell's career in the Normal Institutes and the Teachers' Institute. The research, inscribed within intellectual history and with the theoretical contributions of Jean François Sirinelli, is based on different written sources such as official publications of the aforementioned institutes, pedagogical magazines, as well as the personal archive of María Angélica Carbonell.
