Movimiento editorial en Uruguay durante el período 1960-1973

Abstract

La finalidad de este proyecto de investigación es el estudio del importante movimiento editorial que tiene lugar en Uruguay entre los años 1960 y 1973, acompañando al “Boom editorial” de América Latina. En primera instancia, el trabajo aborda una revisión de literatura para luego dar paso al concepto del oficio de editor y su evolución. Con el propósito de aportar información a la Historia del libro y de la Lectura en Uruguay, es analizado y contextualizado dicho movimiento editorial, teniendo en cuenta a sus actores y los vínculos entre ellos. Dentro de estos actores, se hace énfasis en la relación entre editoriales y bibliotecas en el período mencionado, así como también en el rol del profesional bibliotecólogo. Asimismo, el trabajo hace referencia al marco legal de la industria del libro vigente en el período referido y también sus antecedentes, considerando el vínculo del derecho de autor con el desarrollo de las editoriales. A modo de ejemplo, el proyecto de investigación estudia en detalle a la editorial Banda Oriental, surgida en 1961 y representativa de la época, para ilustrar su evolución durante aquellos años. También se analizan los vínculos de las editoriales con las imprentas y los autores, recalcando la abundancia de estos últimos (tanto en cantidad como en calidad) en el período estudiado. Como conclusión, es de destacar la riqueza en cuanto a emprendimientos editoriales y producción de libros en nuestro país desde 1960 hasta 1973, año en el cual con el advenimiento de la dictadura cívico-militar el movimiento editorial se ve fuertemente disminuido.

The purpose of this research project is to study the important publishing movement that took place in Uruguay between 1960 and 1973, accompanying the "Publishing Boom" in Latin America. In the first instance, the work addresses a literature review to then give way to the concept of the publishing profession and its evolution. With the purpose of contributing information to the history of books and reading in Uruguay, this publishing movement is analyzed and contextualized, taking into account its actors and the links between them. Within these actors, emphasis is placed on the relationship between publishers and libraries in the mentioned period, as well as on the role of the professional librarian. The paper also refers to the legal framework of the book industry in force during the period in question and its antecedents, considering the link between copyright and the development of publishing houses. As an example, the research project studies in detail the Banda Oriental publishing house, founded in 1961 and representative of the period, in order to illustrate its evolution during those years. The relations between publishers, printers and authors are also analyzed, emphasizing the abundance of the latter (both in quantity and quality) in the period studied. In conclusion, it is worth noting the wealth of publishing enterprises and book production in our country from 1960 to 1973, the year in which, with the advent of the civil-military dictatorship, the publishing movement was strongly diminished.
