Ser adolescente en El General: lo barrial y lo educativo en las representaciones y en el imaginario

Abstract

Esta tesis tiene como principal objetivo contrastar las representaciones difundidas por los medios locales de comunicación sobre el barrio El General de Colonia del Sacramento y sus habitantes con los imaginarios existentes en cuanto a lo barrial y lo educativo desde la percepción de los adolescentes que residen en él. No existen investigaciones previas sobre este tema para este barrio. Se pretende producir conocimiento desde un acercamiento directo a los adolescentes para conocer el barrio desde su mirada y para que sus necesidades y deseos sean planteados por ellos mismos. Los principales resultados de la investigación evidencian que los adolescentes de El General consideran que el barrio es tranquilo mientras que los medios lo muestran como un lugar violento e inseguro, se verifica también su entusiasmo por estudiar y se deja claro que no han sido consultados sobre las propuestas educativas que quieren para su lugar de residencia. La población consultada reconoce mayoritariamente la necesidad de un liceo en las inmediaciones. Según informan los entrevistados, los medios locales de comunicación son influyentes en sus referentes adultos, pero no en ellos porque no los consumen, principalmente se informan de lo que sucede en su entorno por redes sociales y por sus familias y conocidos.

This thesis aims to contrast the representations diffused by local means of communications about “El General” neighbourhood, located in Colonia del Sacramento and its population with the existing imaginaries, as for the neighbourhood and educative aspects, from the perception of the teenagers who live there. There are no previous investigations about this issue. Because of this, the intention is to generate knowledge from a direct approach to teenagers in order to know more about this neighbourhood from their perspective so that their needs and desires can be exposed by themselves. In order to enrich the study, an analysis was made about some of the news published by local means of communication refering to this population. The main results in this investigation prove that teenagers from El General regard their neighbourhood as a quiet one, while means of communication show it as a violent and unsafe place. What is more, the investigation proves also their will to continue their studies and makes evident that they were not consulted about the educative options. The consulted population admits the need of a high school in this zone. The teenagers interviewed informed that local means of communication are influential in their adult referents, but not in them because they do not consume them. They are informed about things that happen in their environment mainly through social networks, their families and acquaintances.
