El otro 900: Escritoras uruguayas entre el silencio y el ocultamiento. Formas del género (1879-1908)

Abstract

Detenerse en los discursos literarios de algunasdesconocidasautoras uruguayas que publican en libros y en prensa periódica entre 1879 y 1908, tiene sus riesgos. Requiere pensar en esa trama que se teje cotidianamente en la escena privada, que forma parte de la política y que puede participar de procesos de transformación social (Schmukler, 1990), lo cual nos lleva por un lado a transitar por obras que surgen a instancias del ascenso de la burguesía (Masiello, 1997) y por otro, a atender a las representaciones de género, dado el rol fundamentalque cumplen en las conformaciones culturales de una nación. Implica a la vez circular en torno a los dispositivos verbales con que se construye y emerge la subjetividad femenina y junto con ello, explorar particulares modos de pensar y quizá de experimentar cierta realidad en el contexto de disciplinamiento de un siglo pedagógico e historicista por antonomasia. Es también poner de relieve las estrategias que utilizan las mujeres para escribir (y leer) en un medio desgarrado por la discordia civil y la injusticia social, observando la influencia de los conflictos políticos en sus temáticas y evidenciando además una “rica subcultura literaria femenina claramente definida” (Gilbert y Gubar, 1998: 12) que funcionó en el contexto regional. Aproximarse a estaliteratura –ejemplo paradigmático de las relaciones entre Historia y género ubicada en la encrucijada de prácticas asignadas, silenciamientos y discursos eminentemente patrióticos, es leerla a contrapelo de sus oscilaciones entre el tono confesional de la gran tradición lírica femenina y la elusión de una poética patriarcal. Observar aspectos de la evolución de dichos textos, en guerra o alianza con la cultura masculina, permitirávalorar, a través de un análisis riguroso e inclusivo,otros métodos para una interpretación posiblede la evolución de la literatura uruguaya.

My work focuses on the literary discourses of uruguayan writers of the XIX century, published in books and periodicals between 1879 and 1908 and have not yet beenaddressed byacademic criticism, unless on circumstantial mentions.Stopping in an almost unknown corpus has its risks. Requires thinking about this plot that weaves daily in private scene, forming part of the politicsand canparticipate in processes ofsocial transformation (Schmukler , 1990), which leads us to transit throughworks that arise by request of the rise of the bourgeoisie (Masiello, 1997) and serve the gender representations, given the vital role they play in the cultural conformations of anation. It involves circulating around verbal devices with which it is constructedand emerges female subjectivity and with it, explore particular ways of thinking and perhaps experience some reality in the context of disciplining of a historicist centuryby antonomasia.It is also highlightingthe strategies that women use to write (and read) in an environment torn by civil discord and social injustice, observingthe influence of political conflicts in their subject and also showing the ”“rich female literary subculture clearly defined” (Gilbert and Gubar , 1998:12) that worked in the regional context. Approaching this literature –paradigmatic example of the relationship between history and gender–located at the crossroads of pedagogical requirements, assigned practices, mutes and eminently patriotic speeches, is readingagainst the grain of its oscillations between the confessional tone of the great female lyric tradition and the elusion of patriarchal poetics.Interpret aspects of the evolution of these texts, in war or alliance with male culture, allowsto assess, through a rigorous and inclusive analysis, other keys, other methods for interpreting the evolution of the uruguayan literature.
