Intervención profesional sobre la colección fílmica ICUR/DMTC : acciones de rescate ante deterioro microbiológico

Abstract

El presente informe es resultado de una intervención profesional en la colección fílmica ICUR/DMTC del Laboratorio de Preservación Audiovisual, Archivo General de la Udelar. Se realizaron acciones de rescate para frenar los deterioros microbiológicos que sufrió la colección, desde la inspección y limpieza, hasta la mudanza de los materiales. En este sentido, el informe se adentra en el vasto universo de la documentación audiovisual, el cual requiere diversas formas específicas de conservación preventiva, reproducción y digitalización según su tipología de soportes. El LAPA-AGU, es un espacio de investigación y resguardo en el que se intentan abarcar estas características. Dentro de su acervo, se encuentra el del Instituto de Cinematografía de la Universidad de la República y del Departamento de Medios Técnicos y Comunicación, con el valor patrimonial que ambos comportan y que integran fuentes audiovisuales más allá de lo producido dentro de la Universidad de la República. Tras el impedimento de acondicionar de forma óptima el archivo del LAPA-AGU, surgen en los depósitos de la colección ICUR/DMTC problemáticas de hongos, deterioro que puede amenazar de forma irremediable los materiales fílmicos. Ante la urgencia de preservar estas películas, fue necesario una intervención de forma inmediata. Los objetivos de este trabajo incluyeron, como fue mencionado, deshacerse directamente de los microorganismos mediante su limpieza, así como apoyar al equipo en el traslado de la colección. A los aportes prácticos de esta intervención, se le suman recomendaciones basadas en bibliografía especializada y a partir de conversaciones con el equipo del LAPA-AGU. Se espera que sean aplicables en el futuro, en pos de la preservación de un acervo audiovisual de gran importancia a nivel nacional.

This report is the result of a professional intervention in the ICUR/DMTC film collection of the Audiovisual Preservation Laboratory, General Archive of Udelar. Rescue actions were carried out to stop the microbiological deterioration suffered by the collection, from inspection and cleaning, to the removal of the materials. In this sense, the report delves into the vast universe of audiovisual documentation, which requires various specific forms of preventive conservation, reproduction and digitization according to its type of media. The LAPA-AGU is a research and protection space in which we try to cover these characteristics. Within its collection, there is that of the Institute of Cinematography of the University of the Republic and the Department of Technical Media and Communication, with the heritage value that both entail and that integrate audiovisual sources beyond what is produced within the University of the Republic. After the impediment to optimally condition the LAPA-AGU archive, fungal problems arise in the deposits of the ICUR/DMTC collection, a deterioration that can irremediably threaten the film materials. Given the urgency of preserving these films, immediate intervention was necessary. The objectives of this work included, as mentioned, directly getting rid of the microorganisms by cleaning them, as well as supporting the team in moving the collection. To the practical contributions of this intervention, recommendations based on specialized literature and from conversations with the LAPA-AGU team are added. It is expected that they will be applicable in the future, in pursuit of the preservation of an audiovisual heritage of great importance at the national level.
