La producción familiar en la región noreste del Uruguay: una mirada desde el territorio rural

Abstract

En la región noreste de Uruguay la expansión territorial de los agronegocios a través del monocultivo de soja y la silvicultura se intensifica, lo que causa importantes cambios en la base productiva, social y paisajística. El objetivo del trabajo es describir cuantitativa y cualitativamente los cambios en el uso de la tierra, las transformaciones recientes en los territorios agrarios de la región e identificar impactos de estos procesos en la migración de los productores familiares y sus familias del espacio agrario al urbano. Para su desarrollo, se realiza revisión bibliográfica, documental y de datos estadísticos, análisis del territorio mediante el uso de imágenes satelitales y trabajos de campo con encuestas a más de 500 productores familiares. Los resultados muestran que los monocultivos vinculados al agronegocio han modificado la estructura agraria y el uso del territorio, con una creciente presión sobre la tierra, lo que pone en riesgo la permanencia de los productores familiares.

In the Northeast Region of Uruguay, the territorial expansion of agribusiness through soybean monoculture and forestry is intensifying, causing important changes in the productive, social and landscape base. The aim of this paper is to describe quantitatively and qualitatively the changes in land use, the recent transformations in the agrarian territories of the region, and to identify the impacts of these processes on the migration of family farmers and their families from the agrarian to the urban space. For its development, a bibliographic, documentary and statistical data review was carried out, together with the analysis of the territory through the use of satellite images and field work with interviews with more than 500 family farmers. The results show that monocultures linked to agribusiness have modified the agrarian structure and land use, with increasing pressure on the land, what threatens the presence of family producers.
