Resumen: Background: Durable adhesion to glass-ceramic materials such as Lithium disilicate (LD) relies on effective surface conditioning strategies involving etching, salinization, and adhesive application. While conventional multi-step protocols have demonstrated reliable bonding performance, simplified systems have been introduced to reduce clinical complexity. However, their impact on long-term adhesive interface stability and resistance to degradation remains a subject of investigation. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the immediate and long-term shear bond strength (SBS) and interfacial durability of resin cement bonded to LD using different conventional and simplified surface treatment protocols. Methods: Forty LD cylinders (IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 10): HSil (9.5% hydrofluoric acid etching + separate silane application (Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, USA)), HSBU (hydrofluoric acid + Single Bond Universal adhesive (3M ESPE, St. Paul, USA)), HCFU (hydrofluoric acid + Clearfil Universal Bond adhesive (Kuraray, Tokyo, Japan)), and MBEP (self-etching primer Monobond Etch &amp; Prime (Ivoclar-Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein)). Resin cement (Choice 2, Bisco, Illinois, USA) was applied following surface treatment. Half of the specimens were tested after 24 h of water storage, and the remaining half after 6 months. SBS was measured using a universal testing machine, and failure modes were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way analysis of variance (α = 0.05). Results: After 24 h, the HSil group exhibited the highest mean SBS (29.29 ± 4.40 MPa), whereas the MBEP group showed the lowest values (21.39 ± 5.54 MPa). After 6 months, the HSBU group demonstrated the highest SBS (22.87 ± 10.38 MPa), while the HCFU group presented the lowest values (15.89 ± 7.15 MPa). No statistically significant differences were observed among groups at either time point (p ≥ 0.159), and no significant reduction in bond strength was detected after aging (p ≥ 0.079). Failure mode analysis revealed a predominance of adhesive failures across all groups. Conclusions: This study found that simplified surface treatment protocols, including self-etching primers, provide LD bonding performance comparable to conventional methods over 6 months. While conventional approaches initially demonstrated higher bond strength, all techniques exhibited comparable stability after artificial aging, supporting the use of simplified approaches to reduce marginal degradation and improve hygiene-related outcomes.</summary>

Resumen: Aim: Osteoporosis is a disease that is related to a higher prevalence and greater volumes of apical periodontitis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis and high-or low-level&#xD;
laser photobiomodulation (PBM) on the repair of apical periodontitis (AP) in adult female Wistar rats. Methodology: Sixty female Wistar rats (n = 120) were randomly allocated into four control (n = 6 teeth) and 8 experimental (n = 12 teeth) groups, according to procedure and time of evaluation: healthy control (GCS14/GCS28), osteoporotic control (GCO14/GCO28), sham (SHAM14/SHAM28), osteoporotic (OVX14/OVX28), low-level laser (OVX-LLL14/&#xD;
OVX-LLL28) and high-level laser (OVX-GEM14/OVX-GEM28). All groups were submitted to bilateral ovariectomy, except for the healthy control and sham. Eight weeks later, AP was induced bilaterally in mandibular first molars' mesial roots in experimental groups, and after 21 days, their endodontic treatment (RCT) was conducted. For 14 or 28 days, PBM was applied three times/week, as follows: sham application (SHAM and OVX groups); low-level&#xD;
laser (OVX/LLL groups); defocused high-power laser (OVX/GEM groups). After the respective experimental periods, the animals were euthanized. Tibias and hemi-mandibula were obtained and submitted to computed microtomography. Bone volume fraction (BV/TV), trabeculae number (Tb.N), spacing (Tb.Sp) and thickness (Tb.Th) were obtained for tibias, while RCT apical limit, periodontal ligament and AP volumes (APvol) were recorded for hemi-mandibula. Data were subjected to statistical analysis through generalized estimating equations (GEE), ANOVA and chi-square tests (5% significance level). Results: Ovariectomy tibias showed lower BV/TV and Tb.N (p &lt; .0001) and higher Tb.Th (p = .020) and Tb.Sp (p &lt; .0001) when compared to sham groups. For hemi-mandibula, lower APvol values were found in SHAM14 when compared to OVX/LLL14 and OVX/GEM14 groups (p &lt; .05), which were not different from each other. Over the 28-day period, the OVX/LLL28 group showed higher AP volumes when compared to OVX28 and OVX/GEM28 (p &lt; .05). Analysing variables effects on APvol, time, PBM and RCT apical limit showed no effect (p &gt; .05), while ovariectomy showed a significant increase (p = .004).&#xD;
Conclusions: Ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis in Wistar rats led to a reduction in AP repair, and PBM was unable to counteract this effect.</summary>

Resumen: Aim: This multicenter cross-sectional study evaluated the prevalence and variables statistically associated with primary and post-treatment apical periodontitis (AP) in subjects from eight Hispanic American countries. Methodology: Digital panoramic radiographs from subjects living in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela were analyzed. Teeth were evaluated for diverse factors, including the periapical status and presence of root canal treatment, caries, coronal restoration, intraradicular post, root resorption and periodontal involvement. Quality of root canal treatment and coronal restorations was also recorded. Associations between these diverse variables and AP were evaluated using chi-square tests and multivariable mixed-effects logistic regression with a random intercept for patient to account for within-patient&#xD;
clustering of teeth. Results: Overall, 11 850 subjects (294 662 teeth) were included; 51.5% of the subjects and 5.5% of the examined teeth had AP. Ecuador (62%) and Argentina (61%) had the highest AP prevalence per subject, whereas Mexico had the lowest (37%). Intermediate values were observed in Venezuela (57%), Guatemala (57%), Colombia (47%), Dominican Republic (46%) and Uruguay (45%). In general, 43% of the subjects had at least one root canal–treated tooth. Primary and post-treatment AP were observed in 3% and&#xD;
42% of the teeth, respectively. Of the teeth with primary AP, 51% showed coronal restorations, and 32% had caries. Post-treatment AP was significantly associated with inadequate root canal fillings, inadequate coronal restorations and inadequate intraradicular posts (p &lt; 0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of AP in the Hispanic American countries evaluated was high, affecting nearly half of the population. Post-treatment AP was highly prevalent and predominantly linked to inadequate root canal fillings, deficient or absent.</summary>

Resumen: Objective: Our objective was to determine the salivary levels of cobalt, nickel, chromium, and titanium ions at the end of fixed orthodontic treatment and during the post-removal period (1 and 3 months after removal of the fixed appliance). Methods: This pilot longitudinal study included fifteen individuals (10 females and 5 males). Five milliliters of saliva was collected at three time points: T1 (before withdrawal of orthodontic appliances), T2 (one month post-withdrawal), and T3 (three months post-withdrawal). The concentrations of nickel (Ni), titanium (Ti), chromium (Cr), and cobalt (Co) in the samples were analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). All samples were analyzed in triplicate. The data were analyzed by repeated-measures&#xD;
ANOVA, and differences were considered significant if the p-value was ≤0.05. Results: The concentrations of Co, Cr, and Ti at the three time points were low and decreased after the removal of the orthodontic appliance, while Ni showed an increase at T3. Co and Ni showed significant differences between T3 and T1 (p = 0.016 and p = 0.029, respectively). There was also significantly increased Ni ion release at T3 compared to T2 (p = 0.010). The Cr and Ti levels at all three time points were significantly different (Cr: p = 0.001; Ti: p = 0.001 and p = 0.005). Conclusions: The levels of cobalt, chromium, and titanium in saliva decreased after removal of the orthodontic appliance, whereas nickel increased at T3. However, the levels were below the mean dietary intake levels; therefore, these concentrations can be considered non-toxic. This study has limitations that should be considered when interpreting the results.</summary>
