La construcción de un discurso para del rock como género musical y para la cultura generada a su alrededor fue realizada inicialmente por los críticos musicales y culturales en los medios de prensa a principios de los ochenta. Este artículo se concentra en los textos escritos en la prensa y otros medios de circulación masiva. De esta forma, el corpus de investigación está integrado por los textos de los periodistas y los de aquellos académicos que publicaron en la prensa fuera de sus circuitos. El artículo describe la progresiva construcción de un discurso para esta nueva generación, discurso que logró conciliar con éxito el rechazo a la dictadura, la puesta al día con las tendencias culturales del primer mundo y la adhesión a una tradición liberal, cosmopolita y urbana de larga y arraigada trayectoria en Uruguay.
Musical and cultural critics in the eighties were devoted to the making of adiscourse for the rock music genre and its culture. This article focuses on the texts written for daily, weekly and monthly newspapers. Thus, the corpus is composed by articles written by journalists and those scholars who published in the press, far from the university realm. The article describes the gradual making of a discourse for the newest generation that successfully combined the rejection of the dictatorship, the updating of First World cultural trends, and the identification with a liberal, cosmopolitan and urban tradition with strong roots in Uruguayan cultural and political history.
