At the end of January 1962, the foreig nministers of the member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) met in th eUruguayan seaside resort of Punta del Este. The objective was the collective discussionon continental security, given the threat that the Cuban Revolutio nimplied for the inter-American system since 1959, especially after the Marxist-Leninist declaration made by Fidel Castro at the end of 1961. With fourteen votes in favor and six abstentions, the Cuban government was excluded from the organization. Within the framework of the new historiography of the Latin American Cold War and using varied and diverse primary documentation, in this opportunity we intend to investigate how the political and diplomatic authorities processed the vote in favor of the motion that finally implied the exclusión of Cuba from the OAS.
