This thesis analyzes and reconstructs the concepts of “dematerialization,” “event,” and “performativity,” with the aim of examining their critical interrelation with the transformations of contemporary artistic practices. It argues that the articulation of these three concepts enables an approach consistent with the displacement of the representational system in response to the intervention of a processual and relational register. The study seeks to clarify how these notions contribute to a reconfiguration of the art’s ontological status, giving rise to a process of desubstantialization of the art object. The analysis focuses particularly on performativity, which operates within a dual discursive and non-discursive matrix that redefines processes of signification, where languages and codes intervene alongside situated artistic practices. Likewise, the notion of the event is examined as a relational phenomenon that reorganizes the modes of appearance and reception of the artwork, thereby problematizing the dichotomy between subject and object. In turn, dematerialization is addressed as a process of dehierarchization between form and content, which challenges the traditional conception that attributes value primarily to formal properties. Instead, this approach incorporates a critical, historical, and relational dimension into art. These elements converge in the notion of desubstantialization, understood as a transformative process in which the art object loses its specificity. Finally, the transformations of art in Latin America during the period 1960–1980 are examined through four paradigmatic cases: the work of Luis Camnitzer, the Escena de Avanzada in Chile, Neo-Concrete poetics in Brazil, and Alberto Greco’s action art in Argentina. These examples illustrate changes in forms of artistic representation and the integration of political and social dimensions through situated practices.
