This monographic project belongs to the last course of the Degree in Archival Science at the Faculty of Information and Communication of the Republic University. Its objective is to carry out an analysis about the construction of the identity of archivists in Uruguay. Therefore, it studies how these professionals self-identify with respect to the proposed categories of analysis, to determine which are the shared assumptions. For its realization, a qualitative methodological approach of an exploratory nature is used, since according to the bibliographic review no previous research was found in this regard in terms of the context of application. For this, 12 in-depth interviews were conducted with archivists with different profiles. According to the exposed sample, it is impossible to project the results to the universe under investigation. Consequently, these refer exclusively to the cases analyzed, and to the perceptions of the authors. Likewise, it can be inferred that the initial hypothesis coincides with what was expressed by the interviewees. Therefore, academic training, legal regulations, and the Uruguayan Association of Archivists contribute to the construction of the identity of the professionals studied.
