Resumen:
El presente artículo, de carácter documental, pretende ser una contribución al rescate y reivindicación
de una experiencia pedagógica extraordinaria, escasamente documentada en relación con sus
significativos aportes socioeducativos y cobardemente interrumpida por la dictadura cívico-militar
uruguaya (1973-1985). Tiene como protagonista al maestro José Pedro Martínez Matonte (1927-
1990) y como epicentro a la escuela n.o 157 «de puertas abiertas», devenida en la Unidad Educacional
Cooperaria (uec) del barrio Villa García, Montevideo. Identifica los principales aspectos de esta
experiencia pedagógica integral que interpela las formas esclerotizadas de enseñanza-aprendizaje
castradoras del potencial educativo emancipatorio y transformador, que restan pertinencia social
a la producción de conocimiento y tornan miope la intervención profesional. Villa García educa
en el compromiso y convicción de la construcción de alternativas, siempre posibles y necesarias.
Asimismo, aborda los fundamentos pedagógicos y ético-políticos que permitieron su desarrollo situado
y en vínculo directo con la comunidad, verdadero motor de la reinvención institucional.
This documentary article aims to contribute to the rescue and vindication of an extraordinary pedagogical experience, sparsely documented regarding its significant socio-educational contributions and cowardly interrupted by the Uruguayan civic-military dictatorship (1973-1985). It features the teacher José Pedro Martínez Matonte (1927-1990) as the main figure, and the epicenter is the school No. 157, «Open Doors»,transformed into the Cooperative Educational Unit (uec) in the Villa García neighborhood, Montevideo. It identifies the main aspects of this comprehensive pedagogical experience challenging the ossified forms of teaching and learning that inhibit the emancipatory and transformative educational potential, diminishing social relevance to knowledge production and making professional intervention short-sighted. Villa García educates in the commitment and conviction of building always possible and necessary alternatives. It also addresses the pedagogical and ethical-political foundations that allowed its situated development and direct connection with the community, the true engine of institutional reinvention.
