Resumen:
La tesis aborda los impactos producidos a partir de las obras del Ferrocarril Central del Uruguay en la ciudad de Las Piedras, en un punto neurálgico que involucra distintas prácticas económicas, al trabajo, los trabajadores y la movilidad. El escenario urbano está signado por el fuerte impacto material de las obras. Desde un enfoque etnográfico, se analiza reflexivamente de qué manera viven, se sienten y se proyectan en la vida cotidiana las implicancias de un megaemprendimiento que afecta las formas de vivir y estar de quienes habitan la zona. El análisis pone énfasis en cómo estas transformaciones afectan las estructuras económicas, así como las relaciones sociales y la vida diaria de los habitantes, destacando que lo esencial ―más allá de los intercambios económicos y las decisiones políticas sobre la producción— es comprender la experiencia de vida, los sentimientos y las estrategias de las personas directamente afectadas.
The thesis addresses the impacts generated by the Central Uruguay Railway works in Las Piedras city, a neuralgic point that involves different economic practices, work, workers, and the mobility. The urban setting is marked by the strong impacts caused by such works. From an ethnographic approach, it reflexively analyzes how the implications of mega-enterprises affect the ways of living and being of those who live in the area. The analysis emphasizes how these transformations affect economic structures, as well as social relations and daily life of the inhabitants highlighting that —beyond economic exchanges and markets or political decisions on the forms of production— what is most important is life experience, feelings and strategies of people directly affected.
