The present study aims to analyze the perceptions and representations that women without childbirth experience hold regarding obstetric violence in Uruguay. It seeks to make visible the social that, even before pregnancy, already shape women's relationship with the healthcare system and with their own bodies. The underlying hypothesis is that obstetric violence, as a specific form of gender-based violence, is not limited to experiences during childbirth but also operates in anticipation through imaginaries, narratives, and social mandates. From a critical and gender perspective within Social Work, an exploratory qualitative research was conducted. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with eleven women over 18 years old, without children, from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, and with varying levels of access to the healthcare system (public or private). Through thematic analysis, six analytical categories were identified to guide the systematization: representations of childbirth; knowledge of obstetric violence; autonomy in care; fears and insecurity; access to information; and differences between healthcare systems. The results show that the interviewees tend to represent childbirth as a chaotic, painful, and externally controlled experience, where misinformation and fear prevail. Although many are unfamiliar with the term "obstetric violence," they manage to identify abusive or dehumanizing practices based on close narratives or their own intuitions. The interviewees express a strong desire for more information, support, and accompaniment.
