Objective: Determinate the prevalence of caesarean section in the Maternity of the Clínica Ginecotocológica “B” - Prof. Dr. Washington Lauría, Hospital de Clínicas “Dr. Manuel Quintela”, Montevideo, Uruguay, in the period june-september 2017. Materials: Informed consent, Sistema Informatico Perinatal (SIP), “Libro de Partos” of the Maternity, data collection form. Methods: Observational descriptive cohort cross-sectional study. Population: deliveries and borns in the Hospital de Clínicasꞌ maternity. The data was registered from the SIP after the obtention of the informed consent from every patient using a data collection form. The statistical analysis was performed using the software Epi InfoTM 7.0. Results: It was registered 167 deliveries (50,3% caesarean sections, 49,7% vaginal delivery) and 172 borns during the period of study. Relating caesarean sections to gestational ages, it was obtained X 2=5,28 (p=0,072). The variable was recategorized in two classes: preterm and term deliveries, getting a p value=0,012 (OR 2,47; 95% CI 1,11-5,57). Conclusion: The prevalence of caesarean section during the study period was 50,3%, highly overcoming the values established from WHO (10-15%), knowing that it isn’t a reference center and it’s a high risk obstetric service
