Spinal cord trauma is a condition that can affect the spine and, in some cases, the central and peripheral nervous system, potentially leading to complications in the evolution. The purpose of this research is to study the different clinical, surgical and epidemiological variables in the pre-surgical, surgical and post-surgical states. This is an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study of patients who underwent surgery for spinal cord trauma at the Hospital de Clínicas Dr. Manuel Quintela and Hospital Maciel in Montevideo, Uruguay, from March 2022 to March 2024. Data were obtained from electronic medical records and through brief telephone questionnaires. 17 patients with spinal cord trauma were examined, most of whom were under 45 years of age (76,46%). The main cause of injury was traffic accidents (70,59%) and the most prevalent lesion topography was at the lumbar level (52,94%). There was a high incidence of complications (58,82%), sequelae (52,94%) and ongoing pain (64,71%). Despite the limited sample, we observed that spinal cord trauma is a pathology with high morbimortality, and it is necessary to study it in greater depth in the future. It is hoped that this research will provide useful data to professionals and researchers interested in the subject at these centers, thus allowing them to optimize the approach and management of these patients in the future.
