The Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV 1), the cause of the pandemic unveiled in the 1980s, continues to be a current threat. Although its incidence globally has declined since the mid-1990s, the number of people living with HIV continues to rise, largely because more people around the world are accessing antiretroviral therapy (ART). The following research seeks to collect information about two dimensions of the HIV-1 epidemic. On the one hand, to get closer to the social dimension of the HIV epidemic, we investigated through interviews the perception of HIV-positive patients and people involved in the implementation of public policies for the prevention and surveillance of the epidemic. To explore the genomic dimension of the epidemic, an analysis of the circulating recombinant form 12_BF (CRF12_BF) was carried out, in order to characterize the transmission networks of this HIV-1 lineage that circulates in Argentina.
