Background: During the winter season, respiratory infections (RI) are the most frequent cause of consultation in the Pediatric Emergency Department of Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell (DEP-CHPR). Microbiological diagnosis contributes to decision making in the emergency area. Objective: To establish the prevalence of respiratory viruses in children under 2 years of age with Low Acute Respiratory Infections (LARI) who consult at the DEP-CHPR, during the study period. Methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out in children ≤ 2 years old who consulted for LARI in the last 2 weeks of the months of June, July and August 2021 at the PED-PRHC and who underwent a diagnostic test for respiratory viruses. Results: The sample is made up of 330 pediatric patients who meet our selection criteria. It was found that the most prevalent ethological agent within the study population was the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), representing 95.3% of the total cases (Graph 1), in turn it stands out that the population most affected by said agent were infants younger than 6 months with a percentage of 52.3% (Table 2). Regarding the behavior of the cases, a sustained increase was observed from epidemiological week 28 to 34 with a maximum peak in the latter (56 patients, Table 3) and a subsequent decrease in the final week of the study. Conclusions: It was observed that the clinical manifestations of the children with AKI were nonspecific,It was observed that the clinical manifestations of the children with AKI were nonspecific, not allowing to differentiate the etiology. Regarding the severity of the cases, using the Tal Score to evaluate them, some children with severe forms for RSV and none for SARS CoV 2 were observed.
