The objective of the study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the evolution state of the surgical-resolution acute pathologies in the emergency department at Clinicas Hospital over the first pandemic year comparing it with the previous year. Methods and materials: It has been done a retrospective, descriptive and observational study. Anonymous data were analyzed from surgical descriptions of emergency and urgency surgeries carried out before the COVID-19 pandemic ( from 15 of march 2019 until 14 of the march of 2020) and within pandemic ( from 15 of march 2020 until 14 of the march of 2021). Appendicitis and cholecystitis were chosen to be looked over due to having the highest incidence among surgical pathologies. Results: Throughout 2019 there were 420 emergency surgeries in opposition to 437 from 2020 (𝑝= 0,4396). Regarding the evolutive state of the pathologies, there was not a significant difference in the proportion of complications between one period to another (𝑝=0,6531 and 𝑝=0,85). Conclusion: Findings did not exhibit a decrease in the number of surgeries performed over 2020, neither an increase in the surgery-related complications nor yet an increase during the peak of covid cases in Uruguay.
