Last dictatorships in the south South America during the 70s differed from traditional regimes because they intented to stay in power. This is what has been called the “foundational aspect”, visible in the fact, for example, that both uruguayan and chilean regimes called elections attempting to modify their constitutions. However, one important feature of these civilmilitary governments was, indeed, the addition of civilians to the public office, as well as the constant tension between traditional and modern ideas and practices. Currently, the academy claims that these civil-military regimes managed to build some social base and a certain authoritarian and conservative culture. What's interesting is, then, to review the process experienced by the social space and the cultural field during the term, to see what ideas belonged to the dictatorship regime, where they came from and who applied them, in order to try to understand how those cultural projects, those ideas and those conservative factions reorganized and merged in the present.
