Warrants are the criteria by which terminology is selected, conceptualized, and related for the construction, updating, and evaluation of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS). Academic Warrant (AW) is understood as the methodological criteria that considers the opinions of scientists and specialists, their agreements regarding their objects of study, and their relationships for that purpose. The objectives of this thesis are to identify the elements of this warrant; to carry out a historical overview, considering its conceptual scope and denominations; and to determine the methodologies that have been used for its application. For this purpose and based on an operational definition, a corpus consisting of two ISKO publications (Knowledge Organization and Advances in Knowledge Organization) was analyzed. The results show a historical development of AW and provide the elements that constitute it. Additionally, they indicate a variety of applied methods, but they do not allow for the construction of a concrete methodology for its application. In conclusion, expert opinion is positioned as a central element ofAW, which can categorically influence the results, and its application is evident in the development, updating, and evaluation of KOS. Likewise, its connection with literary warrant is highlighted. The study is projected to continue examining this warrant regarding its possibilities of application in non-academic domains.
