The learning opportunities (OdA) that the educational system offers to students currently constitute a central object of educational evaluations. We understand by OdA, for example, the coverage, arrangement and forms of presentation of the teacher's contents in the course and how this influences performance. This paper aims to study the relationship between students' reading habits and the emphasis that teachers in the third year of secondary education in Uruguay assign to different types of reading tasks -literal, inferential and critical-in the classroom. Its objective is to demonstrate -through a quantitative methodology- how the development of reading habits in students enables teachers to a greater treatment (exposition of contents) in class of those activities that demand greater cognitive complexity. From the analysis of compositional data, an influence of students' reading habits on the learning opportunities that occur in the classroom is evidenced, a factor with potential incidence in the compensation of inequalities of origin and relevance in terms of educational equity.
