En este trabajo se analiza el perfil de las personas que han obtenido el grado académico de doctor, sean estos uruguayos (independientemente de su país de residencia) o inmigrantes residentes en Uruguay. Específicamente, se estima la magnitud de los emigrantes altamente calificados uruguayos, se analiza su perfil demográfico, sus trayectorias científicas, laborales, residenciales y de movilidad geográfica, así como sus vínculos con la comunidad académica uruguaya. Para tal fin se analiza la información recabada en el Primer Censo de Personas con Título de Doctorado, por el Grupo de Estudios Migratorios, donde se ubicó a 2415 doctores uruguayos (con independencia de su lugar de residencia actual) e inmigrantes a Uruguay. Se partió de un listado proporcionado por instituciones oficiales dedicadas a la promoción de la creación de conocimiento y se lo complementó con datos proporcionados por los encuestados, en base al método bola de nieve.
In this study, we analize the profile of those people who hold a PhD degree, whether they are Uruguayan (regardless of their country of residence) or immigrants residing in Uruguay. Specifically, we estimate the magnitude of highly qualified emigrants, their demographic profile, scientific, labor, residential and geographical mobility trajectories; as well as their links with the Uruguayan academic community. For this purpose, the information gathered in the First Census of Persons with a Doctorate Degree is analyzed by the Migration Studies Group, where 2415 individuals were located, Uruguayan doctors (regardless of their current place of residence) and immigrants in Uruguay. We started with a list provided by official institutions dedicated to the promotion of knowledge creation and was supplemented with data provided by the respondents, based on the snowball method.
