This research analyzes Freinet pedagogy and its construction process within the Latin American context. It examines an educational approach present in more than thirty countries, shaped through dialogue with teaching practices and continually reconstructed through international and regional gatherings. The study seeks to answer why this pedagogy becomes meaningful in Latin America, what meanings teachers in the region attribute to it, what contributions it offers to international cooperative construction, and what transformations it proposes in response to the traditional school model. The thesis is structured around three fundamental principles of Freinet pedagogy: social autonomy, cooperation, and emancipation, with particular emphasis on the latter as the central analytical horizon. The methodology combines interviews and school visits in Montevideo, Campinas (SP–Brazil), Popayán (Cauca–Colombia), and Mexico City (Mexico), along with the author's active participation in international Freinet movement meetings, allowing for a situated and reflective approach. The findings show that Latin American contributions strengthen dialogue with the international movement by incorporating pedagogical perspectives of a decolonial nature. In this sense, the research contributes to the recognition of Latin America as a space that produces its own pedagogical knowledge capable of enriching the International Freinet Movement. Moreover, this study examines and revitalizes educational proposals that have been carried out in Latin America for more than half a century, transforming the school form from a rights-based and social-autonomy perspective and expanding the possibilities for pedagogical experimentation within Uruguay’s public education system.
