International organisms (such as UNESCO, OEI and EU) have pointed out that women\2019s limited access and permanence in engineering careers constitutes an obstacle for the creation of capacities in Science, Technology and Innovation. There is no systematic research on this topic in Uruguay. Among engineering careers, computer engineering constitutes a relevant case to analyze women\2019s insertion, given its links with one of the country\2019s most successful industries, software\2019s. This paper\2019s aim is to review women\2019s access and permanence in the different levels of the computer engineering academic path at the Universidad de la Republica (UDELAR), emphasizing long-term trends in women\2019s access to engineering degrees. The paper will also discuss the approach\2019s limitations and propose new research topics.
